About TREATMENT

Very strong clenching or grinding of teeth, also known as bruxism, is a problem that increasingly affects people today. It is usually caused by psychological stress, eliminating the actual causes of bruxism can therefore be difficult. Once this condition has been diagnosed, we will provide you with a wealth of dental and general medical information to help you control the situation and mitigate its effects. Together, we will fabricate a special mouthguard for you to wear at night, which will protect your teeth from grinding, stabilise your bite, relax your muscles and relieve pain in the jaw joint.

Main causes for teeth grinding
No clear causes of teeth grinding have been identified. However, the following factors are closely related to this condition:
• Emotional. An overly fast pace of life, constant emotional tension and stress are among the most important causes of teeth grinding.
• Psychological. This condition is more common in people who tend to be competitive, hyperactive, aggressive or depressed, and who bottle up their anxiety and anger.
• Physiological. Grinding can be caused by an irregular occlusion, tooth loss, diseases of the oral mucosa or improperly performed restorations.
• Pharmacological. Teeth grinding is also associated with the use of certain medications or psychotropic substances as well as a deficiency of magnesium and B vitamins.
• Bad habits. Bruxism is also caused by smoking, large amounts of caffeine, excessive alcohol consumption, drugs and other harmful habits.

How do we perform this treatment?

The causes of teeth grinding can be related to both inherent factors and lifestyle. We will not only restore worn teeth or prescribe protective mouthguards for night-time use but also introduce you to effective practical methods for recognising and controlling stress.

We will take care of you

A team of specialists, time-tested treatment methodologies and the desire to preserve your natural teeth for as long as possible: meet your dentist!

D.U.K.

We often do not realise that we grind our teeth or clench them frequently. However, if you notice that your teeth are wearing down, multiple chips become visible in the enamel, fillings or artificial crowns are cracking and your smile looks as though crooked, it is very likely that you are grinding your teeth.

If you notice any signs of this condition, we recommend that you consult your dentist without delay, as constant grinding causes teeth to wear down more quickly and leads to pain in the chewing muscles and jaw joints. In addition, headaches, facial pain and noises in the joint may develop over time, and it becomes more difficult to open your mouth and chew.

At a daytime, it is possible to learn to control the strength of clenching: when the mouth is in a normal position, the lips should be closed and there should be a gap between the teeth. At night, clenching occurs unconsciously, various types of mouthguards are therefore worn to protect the teeth during sleep. Unfortunately, no universal measures have yet been developed to completely eliminate teeth grinding. It is only possible to mitigate its effects and control stress or emotional tension.
