About TREATMENT

Periodontal treatment depends on the stage of the disease, which is diagnosed after assessing the gums and tooth mobility and measuring the depth of the gum pockets with a special probe. If mild inflammation is detected, thorough professional cleaning, usually performed in two to four appointments, is often sufficient. If periodontitis is advanced and very deep, uncleaned areas of the gums remain after this course of treatment, surgical treatment is performed. The aim of this treatment is to remove the plaque-accumulating gum pockets.

HOW TO SPOT PERIODONTITIS?

Periodontitis is a disease with symptoms that may go unnoticed at first. Unfortunately, red, bleeding, receding gums, sensitive, loose teeth and unpleasant mouth odour often signal an advanced stage of the disease. Therefore, see your dentist regularly for professional cleaning or preventive check-ups during which a professional will always notice early changes in the periodontium.

Treatment methods
Periodontal treatment depends on the stage of the disease. The most appropriate method will therefore be prescribed by a dentist after thoroughly assessing your oral condition and performing the necessary tests.
• Non-surgical treatment. We treat early-stage periodontitis with professional teeth cleaning, which involves deep, thorough cleaning of soft and hard deposits and polishing of the tooth roots. We will also teach you how to maintain good oral hygiene at home.
• Surgical treatment. In advanced cases of periodontitis, deep cleaning of the gum pockets may be required. During this surgical procedure, which is performed under anaesthesia, the gums are pulled back, the inflamed tissue is carefully removed and plaque is cleaned from the roots.
• Follow-up care. This is the most important stage of periodontitis treatment, and its effectiveness depends on good dental care at home.

How do we perform this treatment?

We have been specialising in periodontal diseases for over 25 years and are constantly improving our skills, therefore proven methods and advanced discoveries in dentistry enable us to apply truly effective treatment methods. In our practice, we focus primarily on prevention, stopping the progression of periodontal disease, and conservative periodontal treatment methods. We do not routinely perform surgical treatment (patch surgery) on every patient: we only resort to surgery when other methods are ineffective.

Course of procedure

  • 01

    DIAGNOSTICS

During the consultation, the condition of your oral health is carefully assessed and an X-ray is taken. Once periodontitis has been diagnosed, we determine the causes of the disease and develop the most effective treatment plan for your individual case.

  • 02

    TEETH EXTRACTION

If teeth are found to be severely damaged by inflammation and very loose, periodontal treatment begins with their removal. This prevents further damage to the bone and the periodontium of the surrounding teeth.

  • 03

    PROFESSIONAL TEETH CLEANING

During professional teeth cleaning, deep, thorough cleaning of soft and hard deposits is performed and inflamed tissue is removed. To achieve results, typically two to four procedures are required.

  • 04

    DEEP CLEANING

If the disease is advanced and professional teeth cleaning procedures are insufficient, you will be referred for surgery, during which the gum pockets will be cleaned under local anaesthesia after opening them.

  • 05

    FOLLOW-UP CARE

This is the most important stage of periodontal treatment, ensuring long-lasting results, which depends on the quality of your daily oral care and the frequency of professional teeth cleaning procedures.

D.U.K.

Periodontitis can develop due to genetic predisposition, various diseases, nutritional disorders, vitamin deficiencies, hormonal changes, smoking, ill-fitting dentures or crowding of teeth. However, the most common cause of this chronic disease is poor daily oral hygiene over many years. With time, heavy plaque, bacteria, and microorganisms cause inflammation ultimately damaging the tissues surrounding the tooth: the gums, periodontal ligament, outer layer of the tooth root, and even the jawbone.

Periodontal treatment effectively stops the progression of a condition that has developed over many years but it does not prevent the disease from recurring. The key to long-lasting results is follow-up care. For this reason, changes in daily oral hygiene habits are of utmost importance. Periodontitis, like all other chronic diseases, can only be completely stabilised when the patient understands that it is a weak link in their body that requires constant care. Therefore, by learning how to take proper care of your teeth and undergoing regular professional teeth cleaning, periodontitis can be stabilised.

All periodontal treatment procedures are performed under local anaesthesia. For your greater comfort, we always apply a topical anaesthetic to the mucous membrane before the needle is injected.
In order to select the most appropriate anaesthetics and determine their dosage individually, each patient at our clinic fills out a questionnaire. All procedures are performed using time-tested methods that allow you to feel more comfortable in the dentist’s chair.

The duration of treatment depends on the stage of periodontitis. At the very beginning of the disease, several appointments with a dentist, each lasting about an hour, may be sufficient to stabilise the condition. In advanced periodontitis, treatment continues for several months or even years.
