• Teeth grinding, also known as bruxism, which occurs due to psychological factors such as stress, tension, anxiety and depression as well as due to an irregular occlusion or certain medications.
• Mechanical damage caused by improper brushing, using toothpaste containing coarse abrasive particles or scraping teeth with various objects, such as a pipe, fishing hook or needle.
When treating tooth wear, we focus on the underlying causes rather than the consequences. Why is this important? Treatment that involves immediate restoration of teeth with fillings, laminates or other methods may be unsuccessful, as the restorations themselves will eventually start to wear down.
